I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

Going Down the Drain

by

Derby Hampton

My journey started in the tub,

I was slick with soapy foam.

So slick I slithered down the drain,

leaving suddenly my home.

I quickly slid down sloping pipe,

almost like a water slide.

The pipe then emptied in the sea,

I was swept out by high tide.

A pirate boat just happened by,

I was hauled aboard the ship.

So now I’m with a rowdy crew,

going on a long sea trip.

Each day I must attend a class

at the Pirate Trainee School.

I'm learning to read treasure maps -

school has never been so cool!

The Earth Was Once Invaded

 by

Derby Hampton

The Earth was once invaded,

by Martians colored red.

Their planet was too dusty,

they wanted ours instead.

They built a sleek new spaceship

for their invasion force.

Then armed with death ray phaser,

to Earth they set a course.

When they arrived on our world,

they gasped with great surprise.

The Martians were quite teeny,

no taller than flea size.

Despite their tiny stature

the Martians had a scheme.

They flew down to the White House

to show their death ray beam.

Our president was eating,

they landed on his plate.

The phaser was deployed there

so they could demonstrate.

The president saved us from

the Martians on his lunch.

He took a bite of sandwich

and ate them with a crunch.
